When we first moved to the area, I did not know anyone but wanted to do something that would encourage children to knock on my door for Trick or Treat because I love to play. However, with no children of school age and no grandchildren around I was very conscious that it may be viewed with suspicion … it’s a shame but that is how society is these days.
I need not have worried.
As soon as I had decorated the porch, the children and their families came.
Now I am not one to simply give out shop sweets, I always like to do something different and so I knit them toys. So far over the years I have made witches, cats, bats, pumpkins, ghosts and mice … this year they got finger ghosts riding lollipop broomsticks.
I am now a ‘must-visit’ house as the kids love them, and some have even got the full set so far.
It’s always a secret as to what will be next years theme … that’s because I have to work out toys that are quick and easy to make and practice doing them.
I started off seven years ago with 30 toys and kids during the evening, this year I had over 100 little visitors in all sorts of costumes.
