I am now officially retired
I now have a bus pass
I qualify for senior citizen discounts
I no longer pay charges for fines at the library
I had the first monthly pension payment in the bank today
I have counting down the months, weeks, days to get to this point in time. When it was sanctioned that I could legitimately stay at home to simply read or write all whenever I felt the urge. A time where every minute was my own to o with as I please. The time when most working people long for and what do I do when it arrives … I start a new job.
So, okay it’s not exactly nose to the grindstone and back to the rat-race, in fact it is none of that. I am an assistant librarian, but what makes this job even more exciting is that it is a relief position. That means that I only work when cover is required and that I get to choose which shifts fit in with whatever else I may or may not be doing.
I can’t think of a better job for a writer.
I get to interact with people (people are an amazing source of material for stories) and I am surrounded by some of the best books that are out there.
