Mere Christianity – C. S. Lewis (1952)
There are, to my mind far too many people that use religion as a weapon against other people. I mean on a personal scale against those that are close about them, not the wider picture to cause wars and conflicts, or to justify causing harm to others … although they is far too much of that around today, and right back through history.
It would be easy to talk here about the so-called religious nuts, the ones that hive off on a tangent spouting religion as the back-bone to the new wave movement, sect, or cult but this has nothing to do with them. This statement reminds me of the influences some individuals have on our lives. Those families that are encompassed in an overzealous upbringing, where everything revolves around the faith of the family.
Unfortunately. experience has shown me that these people that consider they are held within a special place for their unquestioning devotion are the ones that are more likely to drive people, especially their own children away from the very faith they hold so dear.
