It is all about slowing down, taking time for yourself and establishing new habits that will last a lifetime.
Tuning-in - one of your five (six) senses
What have I noticed?
Do I feel differently about certain spaces or people, drawn to the compatible or recoiled from other for no explained reasoning?
The sense that was uppermost this week for me has been smell. I didn’t choose it to be it just kind of evolved that way. The more I was conscious of noticing aromas the more there seemed to be, and sometimes in some strange ways.
I have always been one for fresh air, I sleep with my window ajar all year unless it is absolutely freezing and opening the window in the study is the first thing I do before going down to make my coffee, no matter what time I get up. Usually it is done automatically, but I have now started to pause to not only look at the stunning view across the bay to the Isle of Arran, but to also take notice of the smells. The saltiness of the sea is harsh and stronger when the tide is high, especially if the weather is rough apposed to it being a gently scented when the tide is low, and the all is clam. I love the sound of the rain, especially lashing against the window but can now detect the differences in the smells. Just before it starts there it is heavy and almost metallic (known by the Greek word, ozein – to smell) and then there is the earthy smell of the rain on the ground (petrichor). To me it seems that the lighter the rain, the sweeter it smells.
Other than all that, which I find quite amazing, I have not found myself reacting any differently around people or places. Maybe that is something that will come in the future or is an indication that I need to work on tuning my other senses more as well. Which might be something to think about in the future.
One thing that I find is working really well for me is the Bedtime Habit (Lesson 18) - When undressing, imagine that all your worries coming off as well, so you do not take them, any stress, or negativity to bed with you.
So, every night when I take my knickers off I not only throw them on the floor but chuck my worries down there with them, and if during the night I find them creeping back under the duvet with me (the worries, not my knickers) I simply banish them back to the floor and go back to snoozing happily.
