Miracles – C. S. Lewis (1947)
Social media is an amazing concept that keep the world totally connected almost instantly. It links families and friends across vast distances and the virtual reality allows them to share their lives as they unfold.
It is also a means to share the tragedies of this world, to call others to alms, to rally people against injustice and, in some ways measure out consequences of actions, al-be-it by simply naming and shaming those involved. However, in doing this there are often people that get caught-up in the sometimes-graphic publications of acts that people who defy the logic of humanity commit.
Therefore, I have called for an amnesty from all my friends and family for the holiday period asking them to not post anything that involves the cruelty that is committed against animals.
It is not that I want to bury my head in the sand and pretend that it is not happening, but rather that I end up so depressed, feel so helpless, am so angry at what is being done and frustrated because there is often nothing I can do about it.
So, just for the few days of the holidays I am going to simply delete anything that is liable to cause me pain. To recharge my batteries, to have some time free from the fight for the rights of man and beast and then, refuelled will once again join the crusades a-new in the oncoming year.
