Mere Christianity – C. S. Lewis (1952)
It is said that time is a great healer but as far as I am concerned time simply gives you the breathing space to accept whatever has happened, and allows you to come to terms with the choice of to how to deal with it.
Unless you are lucky enough to be able to block certain memories from resurfacing then there will always be things that will remind you, often when you least expect it. A song, a smell, the way someone says something or a million-and-one other things that you could never imagine if you were asked to make a list.
If the hurt was so great It is often not even the case that pain will subside and gradually become less as time goes on. When external, unexpected triggers rocket me back to a situation the pain is as real then as the day it happened, the hurt is still there always but, if we are lucky we learn to live with that fact and move on with our lives. Some, however never make it that far. Some just cannot find a way forward no matter how much time passes.
