A coveted day off
The prospect of a long lie
Is not all it’s cracked up to be
Listen and I will tell you why
The body has got used to
Rising at a silly o’clock
The timer that automatically ticks within
Finds it difficult to switch off
No alarm is set
To spoil the impending slumber
Yet right on cue your body stirs
And peers bleary eyed at the number
On the lighted dial
And flickering back at you
Is a time of day you’d rather ignore for a while
You snuggle down
Knowing you have no need to rise
That you could stay in bed all day
But your body decides that is just not wise
So you toss and turn
Comfort just out of grasp
Until eventually you give in
And get yourself up at last
