Miracles – C. S. Lewis (1947)
Human beings have a habit of getting so bogged-down with what is right in front of them that they often fail to take a step back and see the bigger picture.
They so often get lost in an immediate problem whilst failing to comprehend the knock-on effects, they see objects or structures without appreciating how they fit (or don’t) into the landscapes around, they concentrate on their own problems and joys without a thought to others.
It is so very easy to see things totally from a selfish perspective, to expect that everyone is happy because you are happy, to expect the world to stop when tragedy strikes you, or to fail to appreciate how anyone can feel any differently about the same thing.
The misfortune for one person can be viewed as the effect of karma by another, the birth of a child a miracle for some and a curse for others, retirement as a rightful justice for all the years toiled but for some it’s the recipe for loneliness and person redundancy form society.
It is when all things are taken into consideration that the realities for all are appreciated.
