Christmas was always a time of fun
A chance to be with everyone
To gather with loved one old and new
And party as we always do.
Then 2020 changed the game
And nothing was going to be the same
Covid-19 would not go away
So a locked-down nation can no longer play
Restrictions applied across the lands
No parties allowed and travel was banned
Tiny bubbles of seasonal cheer
Were permitted for only one day this year
Everyone else to stay within their home
Many would spend this time alone
Social media, the internet and mobile phones
Bridged some silences across the zones
But that lifeline was only available to some
Too many people had simply no one
The virus affected all and endangered life
In a time of troubles, worries and strife
And what’s to come for the brave new year
Is yet to be seen as the future’s unclear
