Mere Christianity – C. S. Lewis (1952)
As it goes there are not many things that I actually regret in my life so far, but I suppose that could all change … who knows.
The things I do have that niggle about are mostly things that I did not get any say in and therefore could not have changed or done differently, but that does not stop me from wishing things to have been different.
There are the classic ones that as you get older you only ever really understand. I wish I had paid more attention to just who family members were and they related to the bigger picture, I wish I had shown more of an interest in the things that were important to my elders and listened more to their stories, and I wish I had written some information on the back of photographs when my family had them out to look at.
There are other things that were beyond my grip. I would have loved to have spent more time with my husband’s grandmother because as a seamstress and a lover of knitting, needle point etc. she had a wealth of knowledge that is not lost forever, but I unfortunately I met her too late in her life. Also, I would have loved my dad to have been around as my son was growing-up because they are so much alike I know they would have been great mates.
As to everything else I am very blessed to have had little else to regret, which at any age is a real bonus.
