“Learning in War-Time” C. S. Lewis (1939)
That was written over seventy years ago but is still as apt currently as it was then. Ideally it would be favourable to wait until the time was right to embark on anything. Sadly this would have us all waiting around a very long time which could mean that the moment, however inconvenient it may seem passes without us.
Procrastination, is undoubtedly one of my biggest flaws. I am nearly always aware of just what has got to be done, but it is a very rare occasion that I am prepared well in advance, although most things do end up getting done on time, even if I must pull an all-nighter.
There is also the element of fear of failing for me. I get myself into the mind-set that if I don’t do something then although it will just stay a pipe-dream I will not have had the indignity of getting it wrong or being rejected. This has been my underlying mantra for most of my life. Sometimes I think there is adage in the saying, ‘you can’t teach and old dog new tricks’ as I’m not sure I will ever be able to change, or want to for that matter.
I know all the answers, all the strategies to overcome this but put-off putting them into practice … procrastinating about taking the steps to avoid procrastination.
