The Weight of Glory – C. S. Lewis (1980)
Science has shown that stars and planets die therefore, it would stand to reason that this could be the fate of earth. Man, as a species seems to be doing a fair amount to help this process along of late.
Global warming is predicted to continue to affect oceans, rising sea levels, thermal expansion, melting glaciers and ice sheets, not to mention the weather in general. It is clear to see just by looking out of the window that the seasons are being messed about, with the increase in rain, snow at non-traditional times of the year, early and late frosts affecting crops and plants that are not really knowing when they are supposed to be doing and when.
The fingerprints that humans have put on this beautiful world is causing the carbon dioxide, methane, and other pollutants to be released into the atmosphere which is trapping the sun’s heat. Air pollution is suffering when air ozone is reacting to car and factory emissions. There is more acid in the oceans directly impacting on the marine life, while deforestation and other pollution is having a dramatic effect of wildlife. Ice caps are melting rapidly, therefore the sea levels are rising to such an extent that there is a real threat to coastal areas.
However even though there’s no turning things back to how they were, but the devastation could be slowed down if global admissions were to be dramatically reduced. But unfortunately, there are still too many influential people in this world that just will not accept the scientifically proved facts regarding all this and so will do nothing to help.
