The Problem of Pain – C. S. Lewis (1940)
There doesn’t seem to be too much harmony within the world at this present time. There are conflicts raging in so many countries, Libya, The Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, China, Korea, and Israeli Palestine, to name but a few. Many involving the deployment of British troops.
Too many are being returned injured or suffering from post-traumatic distress related conditions to find themselves no longer employed, and to add insult to the fact that these problems were sustained for Queen and Country they find themselves struggling to survive.
News feeds are constantly high-lighting how ex-service personnel are homeless, or are not receiving the aftercare they so richly deserve. It could be said that they were well aware of the potential consequences of enlisting however, it seems that there is a flaw in the provision of medical pensions or insurances if this is the result.
It seems that the shortfalls for the ex-service forces is expected to be addressed by charities like The Veterans Association, SAAFA, and of-course The British Legion. Currently although companies are often held to account for injuries sustained by employees, thus providing compensation that once again there are some organisations that seem to be held above the laws of this land.
