Mere Christianity – C. S. Lewis (1952)
This could be a motto for general life, and not just related to life within religion. It is my opinion that if more people lived by the premise that they should simply not do any harm then the world would, as far as I am concerned gradually evolve into a much nicer place.
Regardless of this being a basis for many churches there does not seem to be a lot of it to go around as far as I can make out. Now, I readily admit that my knowledge of this does not stem from any devout conviction to a particular faith, so therefore agree that technically I do not have any inside knowledge but, and this is the crux of the matter as far as I am concerned … the lack of good actions within all the faiths is what stands out to me from the perspective of an outsider.
Therefore, if this is how religion is viewed from those not within the various religions, then the teachings about faith being coupled with good actions is not one that is obviously not being understood, or adhered to.
