The Weight of Glory – C. S. Lewis
It crossed my mind that to be noticed is all that most people want out of life, although some crave attention that may not really be theirs to rightfully own. In 1968 Andy Warhol was attributed with saying, ‘In the future everyone will be world famous for fifteen minutes’ but it always surprises me the way joe-public muscle-in to give their opinion on things that have nothing really to do with them. Witnesses to a disaster, spectators at shows, the-man-on-the-street giving an account of how ‘real’ people think about things.
I do, however think this is more of a modern thing since the media is now so readily available not only with the home but on hand-held gadgets giving people access anytime of the day or night all year around. This kind of leave those that just want to remain anonymous, regardless of their involvement in something at a disadvantage as there is more competition for reporters to scoop a good story or find a unique angle to cover all sorts of events.
