Mere Christianity – C. S. Lewis (1952)
Throughout the book Lewis keeps returning to the concept of loving enemies which makes me wonder if there is someone in particular that is on his mind in relation to this. He also seems to find it and intolerable notion in some way, as if he is struggling to come to terms with what, as a Christian he believes he should do and what his actual feelings are on the subject.
Thankfully there is only one person that I can ever say I actually hate, and unfortunately however much I try I will never be able to get over what he did, and the callous way he just didn’t care that it had happened. Punishment for murder should mean life because that is the sentence those left behind have to pay when that person is taken from them, but in this country at least that seems to be very far from the truth. It must be hard for people to endure watching the killer of their loved one be released and go on living back into the same community. I could not have coped with that so moved away.
There will never be any forgiveness levied in his direction from me.
