The Weight of Glory – C. S. Lewis (1980)
This, to me kind of sums-up photographers, painters, artists, writers, and poets. Rather than just existing within the wonders of the world they want to add to it, to put their own colour on things to influence others.
They want to help people to see things in a different way, to appreciate the diversity within their own genre, to enrich, to create something pleasing, or shocking, or even controversial … to make others view things uniquely.
Visual images have all sorts of connotations in a variety of ways, for so many people, on a very personal level and often provide the inspiration for other artists. Writers imagination can run wild with just a simple image and then the work created could inspire others not only to read and discuss that work but also create their own response in a myriad of ways.
Music is so often the result of an image, both those found in nature and those constructed by man, and likewise music inspires writing, art, design, more music etc. etc.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder … and, thankfully no two people approach things from the same perspective.
