The days following any death are never easy.
People that don’t have pets, or never had them as a child often fail to comprehend the important role that they play in someone’s life, the bonds that are forged and the love that is mutually cultivated. Many could never comprehend the devotion afforded to the human that the animals choose is theirs alone.
We have had many animals through our doors and although we have and do love them all, they themselves have always chosen which one of us is going to be special in their lives.
Teija (our first collie born deaf and blind) was always supposed to be mine and that is how it was, Kali was also supposed to be mine but from the moment we collected her she only had eyes for my husband and it was the same with little Soli, she was a daddy’s girl through and through. Berezi chose to be mine, as did Biscuit and Maiz lives just for her dad.
However, this is not just the case with the dogs. Harvey (rescued cat almost blind) loves anyone that will love him, but he has a right soft spot for our neighbour and will run out to see her every time he hears her voice, Toffee-puss has decided that I am her chosen one and as to Finn (white, deaf cat) he is all for his dad unless a certain friend comes to visit and then he has been known to run to the car to get as close as possible, and for the juration of the visit he doesn’t bother with us at all.
Even down to the ferrets. One of ours idolised my husband and always wanted to be near him, with him, doing whatever he was doing or cuddled up asleep on him. None of the others were like that with either of us until we got Flo and she was fixated on one of our dogs. It was fascinating to watch them play.
Although I am Buddhist, I do have pagan tendencies and the afterlife is referred to as the Summerlands.
Buddhism promotes the concept of rebirth, for all creatures.
Most religions accept that all creatures have a place to go after death.
- Buddhism believes that humans can also be reborn as animals
- Catholicism – paradise is open to all creatures
- Islam – all souls are eternal, including all creatures
- Hinduism – all beings can be reborn on different planes
- Christianity – accepts that animals experience suffering, grieving and love and so go to heaven
- Wicca – Rainbow Bridge is located within the afterlife
Moving-on
Everyone goes away
Everything has an end
Leaving broken threads, that no one can ever mend
Death is always hard, for the loved ones left behind
But eventually most hearts do return safely … if given enough time.
