Our living spaces can become nurturing homes for our bodies and souls when we make sure that our surroundings accurately reflect who we are as individuals and who we aspire to become. No matter how positive and creative you may be in your inner world, if your home or work surroundings are contradictory or present energetic barriers, you are likely to find it difficult to manifest all that you desire. By paying attention to the flow of energy around you, you can align your inner intentions with your outer realities to make your life a conscious act of creation.
We can look to the ancient Asian art of feng shui for guidance. Since the words "feng" and "shui" mean "wind" and "water," you may want to walk through your home and imagine the way these elements would flow through your space. A straight path between doorways would make nourishing elements rush right through, while a pleasantly meandering stream would instead create a flow that nurtures life. Look for signs of debris that might obstruct the flow of such a river. Clutter acts like hurdles placed in your path, blocking you from creating what you want in your life. Once the obstacles are recognized, however, they can be removed to let energy flow freely throughout your home and your life so that you can thrive.
My Thoughts:
There are a lot of aspects to feng shui that I always try to put into practice. I do not have mirrors in the bedrooms because they are thought to bounce energy around a room and make you restless, but I do make sure to have a mirror just inside the front door. This brings the refection of the nature outside into the house amplifying the Chi energy of Mother Nature and activates the water element to give people a positive glimpse of themselves as they pass.
I must say I do like straight lines, which in the garden is not supposed to be a good thing. Straight paths do not allow energy to flow so, I counter that with curved flower beds and staggered stepping stones through gravel and as for wind chimes, although I love them with gusts of anything up to the 100mph mark when storms hit, they are just not practical as the gentle tingling chimes transform into a manic cacophony of constant noise.
Clutter is something I hate, open space (or white space as it is known in printing) is something I love and so I try very hard to keep my whole house is tidy. I cannot seem to settle myself to write if the study is in a mess or relax if the bedroom is untidy.
I am not really one for the need for expensive or luxury items, but I do like things to look nice, to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, well mine anyway, and I like my home to have a soft lighting, fresh smells and lots of natural light comfortable feel about it and my garden to have a natural edge to it. However, as I get older that could well become a handy excuse to do less weeding.
