All I want … is a state of mind, but they never find any servant or any friend who can do the simple things ‘properly’ … insatiable demand for the exact, and almost impossible.
The Screwtape Letters – C. S. Lewis (1942)
There are always those that harp back to the old days when everything was better, even though most of the time history records a different perspective. However, now I am advancing in years I do find myself drawn into that notion.
I am constantly finding myself frustrated by the lack of commitment and doing it as best as is possible, rather that this ethos of just getting things done with as little effort as possible. The an old saying … If a job is worth doing then it is worth doing properly appears to be a thing of the past and now there seems to be a philosophy of not taking any pride, in anything.
I know I am a perfectionist, but for the most part that is limited to the things that I do, if I set out to do something, even a task I hate I will still do it to the best of my ability. All I want … is for everyone else to feel the same.
