The Problem of Pain – C. S. Lewis (1940)
There is a saying … sometimes not getting what you want is a blessing in disguise which I have often found to pan out for me. However, I have my doubts about as to the idea that the same control is administered through religion.
It seems to me to be that the all-encompassing response of God knows or God has a plan or in fact anything that sparks as a dictatorship levied at the way I live my life and the happiness that is allowed as a result make my blood run a little colder. If that is the case then I fail to see when I have ever needed the tragedies that have struck my life, or the illnesses, or the heartaches … I am not convinced that any have ever made me stronger and in certain respects I am sure they have not make me a better person, a different person maybe but some of the most horrible events have taken more out of me and left me broken.
I am sure we all often think that we need to be a little happier, in whatever way it manifests … but I predict that there are not many out there that have ever thought they need more stress.
