Mere Christianity – C. S. Lewis (1952)
The problem I have with so called religious leaders is that although they may be seen as having more information on the teaching as laid out in the texts and scriptures they are still simply basing their leadership on their own personal understanding of what was written years ago.
There are too many that simply do not seem to want others to do unto them what they do to those same others. There seems to be a leaning towards the benefits of donations to the faith, yet whilst those donations are almost expected from those that have very little to spare the so-called ministers of that religion often live quite opulently.
In the UK, there is no tax levied on religions and whilst being non-profit organisations it does provide free accommodation to those that are assigned to a religious building. Thus, those individuals do not pay for somewhere to live and any maintenance is covered, all utility bills are paid by the organisation, and they receive an annual salary most of their parishioners will never be able to reach throughout their whole lives.
Jesus looked at his disciples, he said …‘Blesses are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.’ (Luke 6:20-21)
