The Problem of Pain – C. S. Lewis (1940)
To me, this sums-up the phrase … it’s not what you know, but who you know.
Money also helps … but then that is nothing new. The more resources and people that know how to manipulate the system often equals a more likely rate of success, whatever the enterprise.
Politicians have spin-doctors, those that boost the profile, keep the media at bay (or try to) and generally (mis)lead the public in their formation of opinions, top organisations have press-officers and even the UK royal family have advisors to try and keep them on the straight-and-narrow as to public attitudes. The judicial system fairs no better, the one with the more astute lawyer will, more often than not seem to win the case, regardless of who is actually guilty.
As always, regardless of the flight it is the general public, civilians, and the small people in this world that ultimately pay the costs … regardless of who is fighting the battle or what it is all about.
