Mere Christianity – C. S. Lewis (1952)
So, the Jews were the chosen people, we know that from the Old Testament and continued to be so until God sent his only son and so the birth of Christianity and the New Testament. It must then have been more than a shock for people and so confusing as the teachings, as they knew it warned about the coming of false prophets. This man also preached against the problem of authenticity, whilst proclaiming God as his father.
In modern times, there have been many that have made similar claims. Ernest Norman (1904-1971) an electrical engineer in America claimed to have been Jesus in a past life. Mind you, he also said he was the reincarnation of many other people including Confucius, Mona Lisa and Socrates to name but a few. Also, Jim Jones (1931-1978) founded the Peoples Temple also claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus, Buddha and Lenin. He led his followers into a mass murder suicide in Guyana in 1978 and then shot himself.
These are just a couple of the vast number of claimants within the 20th century, but since then others have also jumped on the bandwagon more recently and continue to this day. Alan John Miller (born 1962) a former Jehovah’s Witness elder claims to be Jesus Christ reincarnated with others to spread the Divine Truth which he does though various forms of media with his current partner identified as the Mary Magdalene (returned) and in 2011 the person held responsible for the attempted assassination of the USA president claimed to be Jesus, and that Barack Obarma was the antichrist.
David Icke (born 1952) following a successful career as a commentator suddenly in 1990 revealed himself as the Son of God. He now hosts his own You Tube channel, Facebook account, has produced numerous books and DVD’s, and has a vast following from around the world. Like many before him the predictions he made were not realised. The world did not end in 1997, there has not been an earthquake on the Isle of Arran, Los Angeles has not become an island, the White Cliffs of Dover are not under water and New Zealand has definitely not disappeared.
To quote the bible … “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15)
