Bridging the Gap
Written by Lee Montgomery-Hughes for the PPBC book – Rescue Furry Tails (2016)
It’s a dog’s life ... or so the saying goes
Often unbelievably hard, as an animal lover knows
In this dark and troubled time a rescue’s beyond compare
A light for those that need it most ... a task everyone can share
A lifeline for the ones in need ... from a difficult or unpleasant start
That second chance of happiness, to be loved straight from the heart
A passion for dogs is evident in everything that’s done
To bridge the gap across the past to security, and to fun
But sometimes it’s the human that ends-up as the rescue
Giving a sense of purpose to the things that they now do
A chance to join a family, working towards the self same aim
To really make a difference, and to do it over and over again
Then there are the others, that don’t know what they need
The carers that just simply fail, where many others just succeed
That special foster finds you ... and you in turn find them
The match is made ... the seal is set to never let them go again
To be part of a rescue group is more than you might think
Spokes in a steadily turning wheel, that provide a vital link
Never done for kudos, and the money’s always tight
But the difference made for a few lucky dogs ... helps to make things right
This poem is comprised from the sentiments expressed by those involved in PPBC Dog Rescue
