Church Mice By Lee Montgomery Little church mice named Bubble & Squeak Like nothing more than to play hide and seek They live at the altar, in old battered books But nobody sees them, because nobody looks The best time of year is when Christmas is near As the church is all full of singing and cheer With merriment and laughter and people to spot Plus an abundance of goodies the children all drop All sorts of snacks find their way to the floor Crisps and crumbs and much, much more They scurry around for their coveted gains But beat a quick retreat if it’s hovered again When the church is all safe and locked for the night The mice will appear and squeal with delight Because there on the table is something special to take White frosted icing on a moist Christmas cake |
Winter Schooldays by Kathleen Leslie Dark and chilly mornings now As I have to rise for school If mum, as usual has her way I’ll be wearing lots of wool Woollen hat, scarf and gloves A knitted jersey too Winter time, is not a time For wearing clothes too few Boots replace my leather shoes Thick tights, the uniform socks I’m ready for my breakfast Before the milkman knocks Porridge oats, hot milky drinks Or eggs and toast and more Mum makes sure I’m warm and fed Before I’m out the door A kiss, a wave, a shout, “Take care” Resounding in my ear Then as I turn the corner From her view I disappear |
